Timing
Belt
I know more
people who have ruined car engines by failing to get the cam belt changed on time than any
other mechanical problem. The Capri's cam belt should be changed every 50,000 miles to be
on the safe side. If the belt snaps when the car is at speed, you will only damage the
pistons and valves if you're lucky. Changing the belt is a fairly major job but it's a lot
easier than you would imagine. See my other 'jobs' page
for the gruesome details. I suggest for the service, you remove the cam belt cover which
is the metal cover in between the front of the engine and the radiator fan (it has three
10mm bolts securing it.
Inspect the cam belt for signs of cracking, tearing, splitting, fraying and contamination
from oil. If you are concerned, get it replaced.
